ممثل ومنتج ومخرج مصري، ولد بمدينة طنطا بمحافظة الغربية، حصل على التوجيهية سنة 1930، ثم دبلوم العمارة سنة 1935، والتحق بوظيفة مهندس في قسم التصميمات بوزارة الأشغال. بعد فترة قدم استقالته لوزارة الأشغال والتحق بوزارة الأوقاف، وفي الأخيرة تعرف على المخرج حسين فوزي الذي رشحه لدور البطولة أمام عزيزة أمير في فيلم (بياعة التفاح) عام 1937، ليبدأ بذلك مشوارًا طويلا في تمثيل وإنتاج وتأليف أكثر من مئة عمل فني.
