V for Vendetta

Set against the grim backdrop of a totalitarian future Britain ruled by the neo-fascist Norsefire party, the film introduces us to a society suffocated by curfews, state surveillance, and virulent propaganda. When young television employee Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman) is cornered by predatory secret police after hours, she is dramatically rescued by a theatrical, knife-wielding vigilante in a Guy Fawkes mask known only as V (Hugo Weaving). Charismatic, poetic, and utterly ruthless in his pursuit of justice, V orchestrates an audacious campaign to awaken a terrified public and dismantle tyranny from the inside out. As Evey is drawn into V’s subterranean sanctuary, she transforms from an anxious survivor into an unwitting accomplice in his radical crusade. Directed by James McTeigue and adapted by the Wachowskis from Alan Moore and David Lloyd's iconic graphic novel, this stylized sci-fi thriller balances explosive, operatic set-pieces with urgent, philosophical questions about fear, state-manufactured consent, and the price of human dignity.
