Blood Diamond

Set against the harrowing backdrop of the late-1990s Sierra Leone Civil War, Edward Zwick’s 'Blood Diamond' weaves an electrifying tale of survival, exploitation, and unshakeable fatherly love. When fisherman Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou) is violently separated from his family and forced into slave labor by the Revolutionary United Front, he stumbles upon a rare, colossal pink diamond. Knowing this stone could buy his family's salvation, he buries it at tremendous personal risk, only for word of the find to reach Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio), a cynical Rhodesian smuggler looking for his golden ticket out of the continent. What unfolds is a high-octane, morally intricate pursuit across a war-torn landscape. Accompanied by Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an idealistic American journalist seeking to expose the Western corporate pipeline feeding on African blood, Archer and Solomon forge an uneasy, desperate alliance. The stakes are primal: for Archer, it is pure survival and wealth; for Solomon, it is the soul and life of his abducted son, Dia, who has been brainwashed into a child militia.
